Typeface A Week

What is TFAW?

Typeface A Week was started in January 2009 as a year long project to create new, experimental typefaces. Inspired by the classic FUSE project (by Neville Brody and Jon Wozencroft in 1991) and FONTOMAS (by Dirk Uhlenbrock, which Phil contributed a font to in 2001).

TFAW took on the playful experimentation of FUSE and the FONTOMAS discipline of a week only download, Gabrielle Reith & Philip Thompson set out to create new typefaces using found objects, moods, the weather, places and a plethora of other inspirations, they created a visual / graphic diary for the year. Gabrielle & Philip also invited designers to contribute to the project. To find out more about the contributors, please visit the Deisgners section.

Gabrielle & Philip enjoyed the year's chalange, hard at times, but overall inspiring and worth while. Gabi & Phil would like to thank everyone that showed an interest in the project, and especially the people that contributed type designs.
